Singaporean singer-songwriter Charlie Lim wins "Best Music Video" for 'I only tell the truth' at NY's Winter Film Awards
Prolific Singaporean singer-songwriter Charlie Lim has long been praised for his midas touch when it comes to his musical exploits; confidently pushing out his own melancholic brand of R&B, electronic pop, post-rock and everything else in between.
But the known perfectionist has once again brought pride to the little red dot by winning "Best Music Video" for his single "I only tell the truth" at New York's Winter Film Awards.
The stunning video also made it as a finalist in the Silver Sound Showdown in Brooklyn, and was part of the official selection for the ReelHeart Film Festival in Toronto.
Filmed in the sparse outback of Australia on a decommissioned 747, the video captured a complex mix of emotions which Charlie describes as "ultimately about loneliness, fear, and tragedy, but it's also about persistence, courage, and healing" in a previous interview with Bandwagon SG.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Felipe P. Soares from New York, the video is a collection of stunning cinematography cut together with precision, creating a truly timeless and otherworldly atmosphere.
Just as Charlie ventures into the untouched wilderness of the Australian outback, he is also one of few Singaporean acts who have had the chance to venture out onto the global music stage. The win for him is hopefully significant in the international attention it may bring not only to his wonderful works, but also to other prolific and talented acts Singapore has to offer.
Golden Melody Award winning King of Rock Jam Hsiao has returned with his latest album <The Song>, featuring a whole new image, as well as songs which seem to be very different in terms of genre and style too! Can't wait to see what he's got in store for us this time!
This album has been a long time coming for Khalil, who was last seen hard at work with his production company PRC on songs for other artists including Ella Koon and Jane Zhang. But now he's back with his own brand new album which is named <Dangerous World> and will be released on the 11th of April. This time around, Khalil promises fans a whole new listening experience, and being familiar with Khalil's previous works, I know that he won't be breaking that promise anytime soon. The album is already available for preorder, and the catchy first single by the same name as the album is out now.
Having heard that Khalil was the director of the music video which spent three months in the making, it made my watching experience even more pleasurable. Welcome back Khalil!
Also check out the other three singles that he has released for this album so far:
-A special person
-Black White and Grey
From the moment I saw the name of the song, I knew this would be a really cool and interesting song, seeing as the song incorporates Amber An's chinese name in the song title as a pun. Hsiao Hung Jen always comes up with really humorous and down-to-earth ways of playing with music that really appeals to listeners, etc. incorporating speaking parts to add to the storyline of the song. I like how the lyrics are able to portray it as a real duet rather than just two people singing in harmonies, but rather as having a conversation about their relationship. A very cool song, definitely recommend it to all of you! Hsiao Hung Jen even says that Amber An was his inspiration for his song, so definitely a very cute song with a wonderful backstory behind it! Have a listen, and enjoy the sweet music video too :)
A great big welcome back to Stefanie Sun; a long-awaited return considering what's been going on in her life recently. Her first single from her new album, <Kepler> really allow us to feel a loss of spatiality and timelessness. With lyrics and melody interestingly written by indie band Hush, it's a song that combines fresh elements of rock with folk, making you feel as if you're a planet orbiting the Sun. And yes, pun intended.
She's releasing this single as a promo for her new concert world tour, as below. We've missed you Stefanie!
