Who is Amanda Wu, you might ask? Although you might not recognise her just yet, you'll certainly recognise the projects she's been involved in. A certified child piano prodigy (in 2014 she resided in New York City under the 'Alien with Extraordinary Ability' visa), Wu has most notably performed with Cirque Du Soleil as their first and only Taiwanese musician.
Within the Taiwanese music realm, you might also recognise some of her arrangements from Joanna Wang's album 'The Adventures of Bernie the Schoolboy', as well as some of her works for DJ Shiuan Liu.
The fearless Jazz-Classical pianist singer-songwriter has since set her sights outside of Taiwan, travelling the world with her music. We proudly bring you the premiere of her latest single 'The Chaos of the Earth', from her upcoming EP The Journey On Earth Vol. 2 which drops in April.
Upon first listen, what I liked about the track was that it was sung in Chinese, a brave choice for a musician who wants to share her music with the wider world. Having lived in Montreal previously, within this song Wu wished to paint a picture of a cold Winter's day inspired by the sights she saw there, and that is certainly what I heard.
Using a blend of instruments that created an ephemeral blend of Jazz chords, Chinese melodies and a whirlwind of Classical elements to enhance its feeling of weightlessness, the song is a flurry of sparkling gems that certainly warrants more than one listen. Amanda's voice is a pleasure to listen to too!
