Despite the connotations that their cutesy name might bring, these guys are pretty serious about what they do. Acapella group Butterpella is made up of a group of enthusiastic vocalists from the National University of Singapore, and have made quite a reputation for themselves, even being invited to perform on the Mainland Chinese program <Sing Off China> as guest stars! The group arranges their own songs, bringing in not just acapella harmonies, but also elements of vocal percussion and vocal instrumentation. Their performance of <我爸的笔>(My dad's pen) is is strikingly creative, smoothly integrating multiple rhythms with some well arranged beatboxing. Their refreshing sound and playful sense of humor makes them a group which is instantly likeable, setting them apart from the rest. Their innovative arrangement and wonderful harmonizing within this song makes for a completely different listening experience. Unlike other stock-standard Acapella groups who try to achieve too much and instead fail miserably, Butterpella's out-of-the-box concepts and their love for singing does much more than any complex arrangement ever could. Although they may still have a few hits and misses now and again, this is one group which definitely has the potential to shine if they play their cards right!
