Mere months after the release of his original album, Jam Hsiao is back with his latest cover album "Reminiscence" which features ten cover songs that are said to be classic Chinese hits.
Each of the songs were picked specially by Jam himself, and arranged completely differently from the original to inject new life into each song.
Always requesting a 'one-take' for every recording, Hsiao certainly worked himself and his creative team hard to put this album together.
A simple yet effective concept, I can't wait to hear it!
His first single "一次幸福的機會The blessed moment" is out now! Listen to it below!
Mandopop ballad prince JJ Lin is back again this year with his experimental album "From M.E. to myself", and not only include 18 songs, but also a documentary including interview clips with JJ himself that allow him to share a more intimate side to his personality.
"One year ago I started an entirely new journey, and I decided to tear away from the packaging of popular music, and start anew in categorising myself and my music. I asked myself a question: in the production of music, what else is there I haven't tried?
So I began this project. I hope that through exploring the depths of my heart and unspeakable emotions, using the sound of instruments, melodies, using my own voice I can express these feelings. I hope these actions will allow me to see a side of myself I had never seen before, talking and interacting with those parts of me that had always been hidden beneath the surface"
These were the thoughts going through JJ's head that led to the conception of this album.
Going even further to describe this album as a milestone for the Chinese pop music industry, I am increasingly intrigued by this concept, given me always having wanted to see the true inner part of JJ Lin that I had never experienced.
Lin also used the 'Dummy Head' recording technique for this album in order to create an intimate atmosphere between himself and listeners, similar to that of a live house full of audience members.
Although a consistently popular artist, I've always yearned to see what was underneath the surface with JJ. As talented a singer-songwriter he may be, writing good ballads does not a standout point make. I've always found that his music although nice lacked flavour and uniqueness, something that truly stood out to me as JJ's inner voice.
However it he is able to push through and deliver on this album, not only will it be his best one yet; it will also be a turning point in his career, and growth in character for the boyish singer.

I have to say, I don't get excited about a lot of album releases, but Amber's long-awaited return after a three year break is one that I'm definitely getting hyped up about. Not only will she be releasing an album which she describes as very reflective of her personality, the unassuming indie darling and talented actress will also be releasing a mini movie that comes with the 12-track album.
The mini movie will star herself and actor Zhang Xiao Shun, an artsy piece that details an amnesiac's relationship with an admirer. Hence the title, 'Begin Again'!
After Jacky Cheung's, Kuo is the second Chinese artist to have their album mastered at the famous Abbey Road studios in London.
The album itself was recorded under the watchful eye of Geoff Pesche, who had previously worked with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Blur and Lily Allen, with Kuo herself being the producer in charge of the entire album.
The album consists of 12 tracks, 4 original songs and 8 cover songs, one of which is a duet between herself, Lala Hsu and Apay.
Her first single, "Bird n Tree" is a light and thoughtful piece that is simple, yet allows Kuo's voice to shine. Listen to it below!
The beautiful Fan Fan has announced the release of her 10th album "Fan Fan's Thanksgiving" for the 9th of January next year.
The long-awaited album comes after the birth of her twins River and Ryan last year, and will be available for pre-order on the 22nd of December.
It will also feature collaborations with the likes of Lala Hsu, William Wei and Dawenn Wang, hinting at some interesting collabs I'm super excited about!
More updates to come soon, so watch this space!

Attention all music lovers in Singapore! Remember the notion of those headbanging, indie rock concerts that used to exist before all this K-Pop nonsense started? Well in fact, they do still exist, and the band that does it best in my opinion is coming right to your doorstep to ensure you a night of rocking tunes and a hell of a lot of headbanging.
Taiwanese indie rock band Gigantic Roar although young entries into a thriving and competitive independent music scene, have snowballed critical acclaim since the release of their first official EP “Climbing up the birdy tower” in 2014. Upon entering the scene, the newcomers were even nominated for ‘Best Live Performance’ that year at the prestigious Golden Indie Music Awards, before clinching the title the following year when they were nominated once again.
Speaking from experience, I was absolutely amazed at how these four guys were able to get the crowd going with nothing more than their wits about them and a deep, striking passion for music. I’ve been to many concerts, and none have rivalled the electricity their live performances generate; something that comes from pure, unadulterated good music.
They’ll be performing in Singapore on the 14th of December at Switch by Timbre and will also be featuring guest performers Felix Felicis. The latter is a band consisting of an eclectic yet talented mix of musicians from other well known indie bands such as Elephant Gym, Chocolate Tiger, Come on! Bay Bay! as well as one member from Gigantic Roar. The talented quartet have already released their own debut album “A Bunch of Assholes” only six months into their debut as a band, a mean feat in itself. They call themselves a "special project" that may be wrapping up their act soon, so this may be your last chance to experience their unique chemistry in person.
Special guest: Felix Felicis
Certainly, in my opinion any show of Gigantic Roar's is well worth watching; a bunch of young go-getters who have been fed on a diet of some of the best and most creative music that Taiwan has to offer, what more could you want?
With it being their first time in Singapore, show them some love and come support these passionate and dedicated musicians, won’t you?
Gigantic Roar will be performing at Switch! By Timbre in Singapore on the 14th of December at 7pm to 8.30pm. Entrance is free and they will be flanked by guest performers Felix Felicis.
