I think this is definitely the song that started off this idea of an APW Live session involving not just my sister and I, but also a collaboration with other talented friends! I've always been the kind of person who likes to do things on my own, rather than collaborate with others on projects, but with music I do find that it's almost always funner and more dynamic to work with other people to create different sounds and atmospheres. When I heard the original acoustic version by Maggie Fu, I immediately felt that this song would be perfect for my friend Yishi to sing! Not only does she have an all-round amazing voice, but I do think that it also has this kind of healing quality, and the magical ability to make anyone feel at ease when they're listening to it. I'm so sad that I stuffed up the harmony on this though! The previous take we did (you can watch it in the behind-the-scenes video coming soon) was a little better in my opinion, but know I know better!
It's also the song which really brought everyone together as everyone I asked to help during this session was involved in this video, which I thought was really cool. Especially honoured that I could get my amazing friend Della's help with the Violin part, despite her not being around at the time. Could not have asked for a better team! Not to forget Aw, Jan and my artsy cousin Charisse who helped with the videoing and photography. Jan actually taught Aw the percussion part on the guitar 20 minutes before we recorded this, so like journalism, sometimes with music you've gotta learn fast where it counts. There's many things that you can learn from working together with other people in music, and I've definitely learned a lot from this terrific bunch of people!
Especially towards music and working with others on projects, I have really high expectations for those around me to be passionate about what they do, and above all to be professional and enthusiastic! I love to get people involved in projects not only because of the different chemistry that we can create in our music, but also because I love seeing happy people doing what they love, and that makes me happy too. So if any of you are up for any collabs over the internet, hit me up! But for now, I just hope that you all enjoy this video!!
I've always believed that words mean nothing if they can't be put into action. So I decided to start a Youtube project called APW Live to share our ideas on music with all of you in a different medium altogether! No writing, no reading, just listening. Please like, share and subscribe to our Youtube page here, and as always, we hope you enjoy listening to them!
