As you can probably tell from my wrap up of last year's resolutions, 2015 was a hectic year for me, and although I am still aiming to keep that rhythm going in 22016, I'm aiming to also take better care of myself in general (that can be my minor resolution!).
But as for my major resolution of 2016, I hope that I can truly make my passion my profession. In Communications studies we say that once you say that you're from a certain profession, that makes you accountable for that said profession. I'm not yet at that stage where I'll introduce myself to others as a certain profession (eg. APW creator, music journalist), because hell, even I don't know what I'm supposed to do with all this C-pop nonsense swimming around in my head all day. But that's one thing that I'm hoping to figure out in 2016.
Another thing I hope to accomplish is to figure out a way to make C-pop a lucrative market. As a university student, I've been doing academic research over the past two years on Taiwan's media and music industries in cohesion with accumulating practical knowledge through my websites and industry experience, but I'm just not there yet. i feel heartbroken every time I hear or see Chinese music losing out to others on a worldwide platform, and I want to find a way to change that. To educate others about Chinese music, and to spread awareness of the uniqueness of the market is my plan, but how I'm going to get there is still pretty blurry (for now anyway)!
So last year my resolution was HUGE, so huge that it pretty much encapsulated every single task I put my mind to. So this year, I'm going to go with smaller ones and take a giant chill pill because website creators are supposed to be fun people, and I don't feel like I'm very much fun to be around these days! Anyway, that's it for my resolutions in 2016! Share yours with me, I'd love to hear them!
Once again wishing all of you the very best for 2016. May you achieve what you set your mind to, and stay happy and healthy all year round!
It's been my dream since I started getting to know more about Chinese music to be able to live in Taipei, and now I'm finally going to be able to! Starting from the 11th of February, I will be staying in Taipei for 139 days and hope to share parts of my experiences that may be helpful with readers everywhere! (Feb 2014)
